Plan Winning Strategies for Advocacy Campaigns
With DMQ you have a ready-made product for understanding the democratic climate in a country, pinpointing problems, and identifying key actors.
Thorough, In-Depth Analysis of Democratic Climate
In order to produce DMQ, our analysts sift through a wide range of primary and secondary source material and examine hundreds of events so that you know if an advocacy campaign is appropriate and if there is a reasonable opportunity for success.
Filter Out the Noise and Identify Problems
The innovative methodology behind DMQ helps you filter out the noise of daily news reports and stay current on the key events that impact the strength of democracy in countries. This allows you to home in on underlying governance problems and determine whether single issue advocacy or advocacy writ large is needed.
Easy-to-Read Charts and Contextual Information to Pinpoint Key Players
Every issue of DMQ includes charts and information, with source links, on the key incidents that drive scoring changes. This allows you to pick out key players and understand when and why they took certain actions.
Great for Spotting Trends and Anticipating Challenges
Issues of DMQ include two years of historical data for every democracy indicator so that you can anticipate problems before they become unmanageable. Glance at DMQ's aggregated democracy indicators to quickly understand the overall democratic trends in a country, or scratch beneath the surface with disaggregated democracy indicators and see what areas of democracy fluctuate or remain stable.
Build Coalitions Using Country-Owned Data
We work hard to make sure DMQ can contribute to coalition building in countries.
Establish Legitimacy with Country-Owned Information
Every quarter, in-country peer reviewers - academics, reporters, and NGO workers on the ground in the countries we cover - examine DMQ indicator scores to ensure reliability. Using country-owned data legitimizes advocacy efforts and makes coalition building easier.
Grow Coalitions Using Media Recognition
Because of our proven methodology and our commitment to country ownership, we have been featured in a number of publications in the countries that we cover. This media coverage can be leveraged to start conversations and engage with relevant stakeholders.
Ensure Effective Coalitions with Data-Driven Collaboration
For a coalition to be successful, it must have clear objectives and all members must be on the same page. Since DMQ provides the most up-to-date and objective information on democratic conditions in countries, it can serve as a valuable tool for guiding collaborative efforts.
Advocate for Reforms
Information can be used to mobilize citizens, stimulate discussion, influence decision makers, and engage opponents. DMQ is the best source for accurate information that is produced by a tried and tested methodology grounded in academic theory and research.
Backed by Multidisciplinary Research, Case Study Testing, and Statistical Analysis
First presented at the 2010 International Society of Political Psychology (ISPP) Annual Conference, the methodology behind DMQ is grounded in academic theory and research and has been validated using statistical analysis and case study testing.
Collaborative Development
Flattau Associates developed the methodology behind DMQ over a two-year period while consulting with a number of individuals from academia, the development community, research institutions, governments, NGOs, and the private sector. Many of these individuals continue to serve on Flattau Associates' Advisory Board.
Increased Objectivity by Measuring Events Rather than Opinions
While there are many products that present experts' views on the strength of democracy in countries, DMQ is the best product for objective data since we generate our scores by measuring events and actions rather than surveying individuals' opinions.
Ensuring Accuracy Using Country-Owned Peer Review
Every quarter, in-country peer reviewers - academics, reporters, and NGO workers on the ground in the countries we cover - examine DMQ indicator scores to reduce errors of omission, bias, or misinformation.
Exceptional Analysts
During our quarterly assessment, no analyst covers more than two countries, and all of our analysts have advanced degrees in international development or a related field.
Evaluate Your Impact and Adapt to Change
DMQ helps you evaluate your impact and adjust programming to address changing governance conditions.
Monitor Performance Using Explicit Measures
Because the scores in DMQ come from the explicit measurement of leadership actions, you can clearly see if your advocacy efforts are having a direct impact on policy.
Quarterly Data Provides a More Accurate Picture
Most democracy indices produce data once a year or once every two years and by the time information reaches you governance conditions in a country have long since changed. Because of the innovative methodology behind DMQ, you will have the most up-to-date and accurate information on the democratic conditions in countries. With this information you can quickly revisit your advocacy strategies and adapt to changing governance conditions.
